About Me

My deep interest for engineering stems from early childhood and has remained unchanged until the present. For instance, I have been an avid remote control (r/c) airplane pilot since age 7, and have participated in several aerobatics local and international competitions, including the Portugal 2009 world championship, where I represented Colombia. My experience with aeromodelism has served me well in my studies by providing me with a natural understanding of the tools and abilities necessary for designing, building and flying aerospace vehicles.

I graduated from Aeronautic Engineering at Universidad de San Buenaventura in Bogota, Colombia. Because of my keen sense for the practical intricacies of design, I served as a teaching assistant for the tenth semester aircraft design course. As a T.A. my role was to help students with the building and internal configuration of the airplanes they designed. This opportunity allowed me to broaden, consolidate and share my knowledge in the area of aircraft design.

Additionally, my significant experience with aeromodelism led me to take a leadership role in the back then-created Aeromodelism Club at the university. As the club director, I handled all administrative duties, such as securing funding from the university and managing the budget. I had also the opportunity to teach less experienced students how to build and fly basic r/c planes.

As an active member of the university’s research and development teams, I closely followed the design, building, and trial processes of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) known as the Navigator X-2, built by faculty members. This experience gave me great insight into the creation process of a UAV. Thanks to all the knowledge gained it was possible, as my graduation thesis in partnership with two other students, to design and build a prototype of a Rocket Powered high speed UAV called Minos.

Along with the passion for the aerospace environment came the automotive. I grew a great interest for the subject as another major field in engineering with great space for technological improvement and innovation. As a passionate for industrial design, from a self-taught approach, I dedicate part of my time to design vehicles, aerial and automotive, where I can create and innovate from a conceptual approach.

In spite of my studies having been mostly focused on the aerospace industry, I have always been very keen on the automotive and motorsports sector and I am permanently seeking opportunities to deepen my knowledge in the field.

I am a very curious person. Curiosity drives me to research and learn from other areas such as energy generation, architecture, application of engineering and design to various fields like health, environment and life sciences.

One year before finishing my bachelor's degree I was honored with the opportunity of doing a visiting research at Cranfield University, UK under the supervision of Professor Howard Smith. Just before finishing my degree I went back to Cranfield for another research opportunity to later be accepted into the Aerospace Vehicle Design MSc, working in the development of future, more advanced and greener passenger aircraft with the design of the AT-13 Ultra Green Advanced Technology Airliner; a group project conformed by more than 60 engineers, simulating an industrial environment, in which I was responsible for designing a mechanism to fold its wings.

Following the group project, my Individual Research Project focused on the preparation and testing of a UAV developed at Cranfield University.

Currently I work for a very forward thinking Engineering consultancy called Intrinsys Ltd. During my work I have had the chance to deepen my skills in CAD and CAE, working for several projects spanning through different fields of engineering.

As a side activity, I am a very spirited musician. Since 2009 I have been member of several bands, one with which I got to record our own EP. I play the piano but I am mostly a singer. I currently play in a band at the university.

The integration of different activities together is nourishing and helps maintain a dynamic and enriching life experience.
